Chapter 14: Adoption and Scaling of Climate-Smart Aquaculture and Agroforestry Practices: The Role of Agricultural Extension Services Dr. Taibatu Abdullahi Manga and Dr. Yohanna John Alhassan

CONCLUSION
Agricultural extension services are indispensable in promoting the adoption and scaling of climate-smart aquaculture and agroforestry practices. By facilitating knowledge transfer, co-creation of innovations, and risk-informed decision-making, extension systems bridge the gap between research and practical application. Participatory approaches, peer learning, digital advisory platforms, and innovation platforms have been shown to enhance relevance, adoption, and sustainability of climate-smart practices. However, the effectiveness of extension is constrained by limited funding, high extension–farmer ratios, insufficient technical capacity, and weak institutional and policy support. Addressing these challenges through capacity building, infrastructure development, digital integration, and inclusive governance is essential for mainstreaming climate-smart agriculture. Ultimately, strengthening research–extension–farmer linkages, promoting gender-responsive and youth-inclusive approaches, and fostering multi-stakeholder collaborations provide a pathway for scaling climate-smart innovations that enhance productivity, resilience, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic well-being. Climate-smart extension services are therefore central to achieving resilient rural livelihoods and advancing sustainable development goals, particularly those related to food security, climate action, and sustainable land use.BOOK CHAPTERS 2026 READY.docx 11
