PROFILE OF PROFESSOR EDITH CHISA CHUKU
Prof. Edith Chisa Chuku was born on the 9th of September, 1965, to the family of Late Chief (Dr) and Mrs. M.N. Tasie in Atali Town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. She is the third child and the only girl in a family of five with two brothers before and after her.
Prof. Edith Chisa Chuku attended all Saints Primary School where she obtained her First School Leaving Certificate in 1977 the same year she lost her mother. She then sat for a common entrance examination the same year and proceeded to Government Secondary School Okehi Etche as one of the pioneer students of that school. In 1978, she moved over to Government Girls Secondary School Ndashi Etche following the Government policy to make Government Secondary School Okehi a Boys’ school and Ndashi Girls’ school respectively.
Prof Edith Chisa finished from Ndashi in 1982 as the Senior Prefect of the Prestigious Girls College with eight papers and five credits in WAEC. She sat for JAMB and was admitted into the Rivers State University of Science and Technology to study Crop Science, when circumstances prevented her from securing admission in University of Jos which was her first choice.
She graduated with a B.Sc degree in Crop Science in 1988. She proceeded to do her Master’s degree and obtained her M.Sc degree in Crop Protection Option in 1998.
Prof Edith Chisa continued her studies in the same department and bagged her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Crop Protection Option in year 2000. She was employed into the University of Science and Technology in year 2002 in the Department of Applied and Environmental Biology (Botany Unit).
Prof Edith Chisa has been involved in effective teaching of students and in Research since she was employed in the university. She has publications from year 2002 to date both internationally and locally with about one hundred and twenty one (121) outstanding Journal Papers in reputable journals. Prof Edith Chisa Chuku belongs to several Professional bodies and very active in these bodies.
Prof Edith Chisa Chuku was a two tenure Business Manager of the Nigerian Society for Plant Protection (NSPP).
She was an editorial board member of BOSON.
She is an Associate Editor to the International Society on Research and Development Ghana.
A member of the Horticultural Society of Nigeria (Hortson).
A member of the Nigerian Society for Food Science and Technology.
A member of the Nigerian Society for Biopesticide.
A member of the Organization of Women in Science and Development (OWSD).
